Bumpy Croatian asphalt tests Pirelli to the limit

Pirelli rally manager Terenzio Testoni said the Italian firm’s maiden asphalt outing at last weekend’s Croatia Rally provided a significant challenge for the Italian company’s P Zero tyres. Drivers used both the hard and soft compound of the dry weather tyre. Having tested the asphalt tyres in extreme temperatures of over 40°C last year, Testoni was confident wear rates wouldn’t be a problem, but the abrasive Croatian stages made the task tougher for the covers. “The first weekend on asphalt proved to be very demanding,” said Testoni, “with roads that were often dirty and slippery. “This provided a very big test for the drivers and, of course, the tyres.
