Rice became the 18th driver to get his first Indy car victory in the Indianapolis 500. “Prior to the start of the race in practice, Buddy, Vitor and Roger worked so well together in developing the car during practice,” Rahal said. “It was more nerve-wracking for Roembke and Rahal and those guys as we waited it out,” Rice said. “Roembke won that thing because we had a game plan,” Rice said. Rice returned for the next race at Texas Motor Speedway and remained with Rahal’s team through 2006. Rice’s advice to these young drivers is reflective of the way he drove a race car.
