AlphaTauri F1 boss dashes Daniel Ricciardo’s hopes of making a shock return to the F1 grid within weeks – but says a Kiwi driver could get promoted instead

The door has slammed shut on Daniel Ricciardo making an earlier than expected return to the F1 grid but it has cracked open for a rising New Zealand driver at AlphaTauri. Lawson has maintained an impressive streak of winning the first race weekend across every single-seater category he has entered, spanning eight seasons from Formula First to Japanese Super Formula. Lawson narrowly missed out on a Formula 1 seat with AlphaTauri this season, which ultimately went to De Vries. At just 13 years old, Lawson won his debut race in the 2015 Manfeild Winter Series. Lawson then graduated to Formula 2 in 2021 with Hitech, winning his first race in Bahrain and finishing ninth overall in the championship. In addition to his runner-up finish in the 2021 DTM season, Lawson currently holds third place in Japanese Super Formula with one debut win from three races.
