Fernando Alonso is not worried about failing to get back up to speed ahead of his return from a two-year sabbatical in 2021. In the meantime, he has raced at Le Mans, the Indy 500 and the Dakar rally, but he admitted he needs time to get his F1-ready fitness back. Another issue is that, even after more than 300 grands prix, he needs to re-adjust to the speed of a Formula 1 car. “I think the car is obviously outperforming me at the moment, because I cannot extract the maximum from the car,” Alonso admitted. “But now getting back, it’s true you are missing a little bit the braking points, how quick the corners arrive, the braking performance, cornering speed performance, many things I need to get used to again,” he said.
