Daniel Ricciardo has been sacked by McLaren amid a miserable season for the Australian veteran, paving the way for the Formula One team to move for Oscar Piastri. After months of speculation surrounding the 33-year-old’s future, McLaren confirmed on Wednesday that they will part ways with Ricciardo at the end of the 2022 season, bringing an end to their two-year partnership. He delivered McLaren a race win at the 2021 Italian Grand Prix in Monza, but just four top 10 finishes from this season’s 13 races has resulted in the team swinging the axe. ‘I’ve enjoyed working with everyone at McLaren both trackside and back in Woking and will be giving my all on and off track as we enjoy the remainder of the season together.
